Volunteer

World Festival
More than 550 volunteers from many different cultures in our community take part in the annual World Festival. Many volunteer hours are contributed by the participants and the board. Learn more.

RIA International Speakers:
Share your culture at Y lunches, churches, schools, and other organizations.

Host an Exchange Student:
The Center for Cultural Interchange is looking for host families for a semester or a year. Students bring own money and insurance. Call 507-288-6411 or email hst4552@aolcom.

English Tutors and Assistants:
Volunteers are always needed to assist in classes or as one-on-one mentors at the Community Education Adult Literacy Program teaching English and tutoring in basic skills. They are in new quarters at Hawthorne School. Call Kim Smith at 507-287-1986.

Host international students and visitors:
Home hospitality is a highlight for all international students and visitors to our city. Join RIA’s list of available hosts.

Youth mentorship program:
Rochester Family Y. Adults who want to make a difference in the lives of a young person in Rochester may call the Y at 507-287-2260. Mentors may use Y facilities with their mentees. There are many minority youth on the waiting list for mentors.

Peace Corps:
The Mission of the Peace Corps is to promote world peace and friendship by providing volunteers who contribute to the social, economic and human development of the interested countries. Peace Corps is currently in 70 countries around the globe.

Invitation:
For new board members to be elected at the Annual board meeting in September. All RIA members eligible to serve for 1-year terms. Board members meet monthly and provide leadership for the World Festival and other events throughout the year.
